There are shortcuts in sports betting that allow you a greater chance of a return on your investment if you're inclined to bet on the Money Line on a certain game.

If you like the underdog, you might want to consider a bet on the point/goal/run spread, depending on the sport. If you get close enough, it insures you of making some sort of profit on the wager.

Using a recent playoff game as an example at the time of this writing, the Bucs were +6 against the Lions. If the Bucs had lost by 5 points or fewer, or had won - that bet would have paid off. (They lost by 8 points of course - so had the 2-point conversion been successful on their last score, the game would have been a push.)

If you're betting favorites, you would do the opposite. You would want to take the money line and would steer away from the spread margin offered.

Reversing the above example, the Lions were -6 against Tampa Bay I'm the same game. For the bet to cover, the Lions had to win by 7 points or more, which they did.

As Brent Musburger says on VSIN, cashing tickets is what it's all about. Using these tips should, in the long run, help you cash more often.
