Most of the time, the answer to this question is a definite no.


However, there are circumstances we're the answer would be yes - if you play ONE ticket for $3, spending the extra dollar to include the Power Play to go for the big jackpot.


Excluding secondary prizes, your odds of winning Powerball are 292,000,000 to 1.


So, if the growing jackpot grew over $876-million, getting one ticket ensures positive expected value.


I don't include secondary prizes because the occurances of that occurring isn't a known quantity and fluctuates with every drawing.


Plus, getting positive expected value is not a guarantee of a beneficial result. So keep that in mind when you see those life-changing jackpots.
